Build, Configure and Fly: A Practical Drone Workshop (1209)

Build, Configure and Fly: A Practical Drone Workshop

Description

At the end of this training, the learner will be able to:
  • Identify and explain the function of the main components of a multirotor drone
  • Understand the role and configuration principles of a flight controller and its firmware
  • Assemble a functional drone using solderless, modular components
  • Perform essential system checks and pre-flight verifications using configuration software
  • Conduct a basic test flight to validate correct assembly, configuration, and flight behavior.

Overview of multirotor drone architecture and system layout
  1. Drone components and their functions (frame, motors, ESCs, flight controller, power system, sensors, radio and video links)
  2. Principles of flight control, stabilization, and flight modes
  3. Flight controller firmware structure and configuration concepts
  4. Sensor setup and verification (IMU, compass, GPS – where applicable)
  5. Motor and ESC configuration and safety checks Power management, batteries, and electrical safety
  6. Assembly of the drone using modular, solderless components
  7. Introduction to flight control and configuration firmware (Betaflight)
  8. System configuration, parameter checks, and troubleshooting basics
  9. Pre-flight inspection and safety procedures
  10. Controlled test flight and basic flight evaluation

The training follows a hands-on, practice-oriented approach, combining short theoretical inputs with a guided practical assembly and configuration workshop :
  • Interactive classroom sessions introducing key technical concepts Instructor-led demonstrations of components, system architecture, and configuration steps
  • Guided practical assembly of a multirotor drone using solderless, modular components
  • Supervised configuration exercises using flight controller software (Betaflight)
  • Group-based troubleshooting and discussion of common setup issues
  • Step-by-step pre-flight checks and safety briefings
  • Supervised and controlled test flight to validate assembly and configuration
  • Emphasis is placed on learning by doing, system understanding, and safe operational practices.

The participants need to bring their own laptop to the training course.

Other than that, the prerequisites for the course are the following:

  • Basic computer skills are necessary (use of configuration software)
  • Basic understanding of drone operations is recommended but not mandatory
  • Compliance with safety instructions and operational procedures during practical sessions
  • Participants are not required to have soldering skills, as the drone assembly is carried out exclusively using solderless components.
  • No prior experience in drone assembly or electronics is required

This training is intended for:
  • Aspiring drone pilots seeking a deeper technical understanding of multirotor systems
  • Professional drone operators who want to better understand the technical behavior of their aircraft
  • Technical staff involved in drone operations, maintenance, or system preparation Engineers, technicians, or hobbyists with an interest in UAS hardware and flight control systems
  • Trainers or instructors who require a practical overview of drone assembly and configuration...
